18 months ago, Pass the Beat opened its first program at the Taman Permata Hati Orphan Center in Ubud, Bali.
We are happy to report that the program has been a resounding success! With your donations we are able to continue our bi weekly music lessons hopefully for a very long time. We recently visited the orphanage and were stunned to learn that the children had actually formed an orchestra and learned nine songs, ranging from traditional Indonesian and Balinese songs to American classics, including “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Don’t Worry Be Happy,” and “You Are My Sunshine.” Amazingly, the orchestra has played five public concerts in Ubud. From speaking with the children and our friends at the Center, we know that these concerts have yielded tremendous pride and joy, both for the children and the community.
Posted below are two short videos: One is of the children performing an uplifting and inspiring version of “Don’t Worry Be Happy,” and the other is a recap that includes remarks from Ayu Rama, the Center’s director, who has a unique perspective on the impact that Pass the Beat is making. We hope you can spare just a few minutes of your time to view these videos, we think you'll be amazed at what you see. And from the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for making all this possible!
